Ed
Thompson
Ed makes extremely complicated and elegant pottery. The finished things are
dramatic and subtle at the same time. He often draws design patterns on leather-hard
clay. Next he makes preliminary "cuts" over the entire pot surface.
This enables him to execute very precise delicately carved patterns. On other
pottery, Ed applies slip-trail "decals". He creates these "decals"
by pressing paper into wet slip to which he has added colorants and created
patterns. The paper allows him to lift and transfer the designs to leather-hard
clay. These "decals" appear as intricate inlayed decorations.
